Am looking for ways to get more power out of my 5.0. I use it for pulling a stock trailer so gas mileage doesn't matter. Was wondering about a chip or???? Also would like to know how to get better throttle response. Thanks Mike
Mustang underdrive pulleys
Flowmaster 3" single exhaust cat-back kit
Bumped timing up 3 degrees from stock
Installed stock replacement K&N panel filter, removed baffles from lower part of stock airbox, and installed a stock air scoop from a 4.9 F150 (gets air from BEHIND the grille, creating a semi-ram air effect)
Set TPS to .980
Run one heat range COLDER Autolite spark plugs w/Motorsport plug wires
I never actually dynoed the truck after doing those mods, but when I bought it (with 158K miles on it and 235/75/15 tires), it only got 12-13mpg. It now has 221K miles on it, been lifted and runs 32/11.5/15 tires, and with the mods listed above it regularly pulls down 18-19mpg.
I disagree- after I put my underdrive pulleys on my truck, I got a SOLID 3mpg gain in fuel mileage. Some trucks might be different, but that's how good they've been for mine.
There are lots of threads on this, please use the search function of the site. Power pulley's don't do much, I find it hard to believe you got 3mpg out of them when they make less then 5 hp relieve off the engine.

Trust me, I STILL can't believe that my truck gained that much more mpg's, but it really did. Maybe it did because I already had the Flowmaster 3" cat-back exhaust installed. Who knows.
