89 Ranger starter problems
I have a 89 Ranger and I am having problems with the starter. Out of the blue the bolts loosened up and it wouldn't engage, so I tightened them up and about a week later they loosened up again. Long story short a cousin needed a vehicle and wanted it so I sold it to him and he had the same problem well he replaced the starter, battery and had the fly wheel resurfaced, same problem after several months and no Money (wifes cousin) he just gave it back to me.
well now that gas is up to 2.00 + I'd rather drive it to work than my '90 f150 gas guzzler. any help would be appreciated.

Do the 3 bolts have the washers on them? Have you tried any thread lock on them? You could also try taking off the regular washers and put some lock washers on there. They are very cheap at a h/w store. Also, is there an excessive amount of shaking/shuddering in your engine and trans? For instance, do you have a worn/broken/loose mount somewhere that is causing everything to shake?
