What temp is normal?

What Tempature should my 79 F250 "400CI" run at? It seems to want to run about "210" with a "180" thermostat. That seems kind of high to me... and I was wondering what is normal....

Thanks

It should run at 180 with a 180 Tstat. I think the stock Tstat is about 192 degrees. I think that you should check your gauge, by putting a thermometer into your tank when it is cool and let it warm up. You may have to drain some coolant first, to keep it from overflowing.

That is kind of warm. First make sure it's not just a bad gauge.

Wrecker,

I have a 180 degree T-Stat, and the highest I've seen is around 190 - 193, and that is idling at a stop, in Drive, with A/C on in 100 degree weather (my worst case scenario). However, I am running an Edelbrock water pump which probably helps a lot. In cruise, I see right about 180 the whole time. Also, when I am at 190, if I shift into Park or Neutral and let the engine RPM's (and therefore fan speed) bump up a bit, I drop right back down to 180. Hope that helps.
