Need some opinions

Ok I got a 71 Mach1 , and I want to make this thing a screamer, and this is what I have to work with, 302, 351C, 390, 460, and I'd like to run some sort of power adder, weather it be No2 or Supercharger, now if im aiming for atleast 600 hp while keeping some handling abilities , which route do I go. I know the 460 will get me there easy, but thats so much weight on my front end, but then again they came with 429's. All 4 of these engines are sittin on a stand, except the 390 is almost done, I was planning on putting it in but Ive ran into a block problem , but I have another one sitting around. I know the 302 would need a healthy shot of No2 or a SC, not sure about the 351C , Im sure some of you guys out there have some advice.
Thanks

Well the cleveland is smaller cubic inch wise but it weighs a lot more than a 302/351w.

I would say it depends on what exactly you mean by handling, do you want to be competitive in some type of road racing event?

If not go for the cubes ~ 460

I found this info:

302 = 460 lbs
351cleveland = 550
429/460 = 640
FE BB = 650

So if you didn't have a problem with the 390 then drop the 429/460 in there and save 10 lbs.

Is the cleveland 2v or 4v? It would save you 90 lbs over the 429/460 and 390, and can make some serious hp.

Why 600hp? If you don't mind my asking, thats a lot of hp.

By handling I mean street driving, i plan on using it more on the strip so it might not be that bad , I am just aiming for 600hp , i figured the way I wanted to use it that would be a good starting point, plus competition calls for it around here lol I have 2v heads for the 351C but can get a set of 4v's no problem. The 460 might be the way to go, its a 73' I just pulled out of a car so nothing is wrong with it. The 351C came out of a 71 torino and its just waiting for sumthin to do, but I can't decide thats why Im here

Then I would definitely go with the BBF, just can't beat the BBF torque or sound, IMO. Mild build would get you 400hp, install a 200 hp shot of nitrous oxide and you would have 600 hp when you need it and a reliable engine when you don't, would also be the cheapest route to get the hp you want. Just make sure you build the engine/tranny/rear for it. Good luck

I would go with the 460. It would not be too awful hard to make 600 naturally aspirated. It would be a cinch to make it with N20. The small blocks would need a lot of nitrous or a lot of boost to make 600 and still run on pump gas.

What was the block problem with the 390? If it was me, I'd build the 390 and slap on aluminum heads and intake. That should help a lot with weight. A good 400hp build with 200hp shot of nitrous would get you there. Still, I'd just leave the nitrous off. 400hp in a mustang with leave you grinning ear to ear.

I would put a crane roller cam in it, and have Keith Craft port the edelbrock heads. (for starters of course)

the 460 would probably be the easiest to fit since they (429/460) were installed as factory set-ups. As for weight,aluminum intake and headers will take some of the weight off,as would aluminum heads.Make sure the bottom end is built to handle the added stress of either the nitrous or the blower.also chassis may need tweaked to put that much power to the ground.never sacrafice safety for speed.
