**scam alert** dont fall for it
Noone does.
> u get a money order in the mail from a us bank, and it cashes.
Western Union! If it is not a payment from PayPal (U.S. buyers) or bidpay.com (Western Union) I will not accept the payment, as simple as that. Insurance and tracking on everything unless I get paid with a U.S. Postal money order.
I just finished mailing something to Mexico, $16.75 postage for a $5 part. I cash the Western Union check I know it is good and that it arrived through W.U. by their web site. If anything goes wrong, I still get paid.
I use to buy and sell cars (not dishonestly) and I help people a lot that get messed up buying them. Everytime I think I have seen or know it all, I see some new scam come up. Trusting people are usually the ones that get taken in. Just saw a car yesterday I have been fixing for someone.
I have not seen a vinyl roof on any Mercury Sable except this one. So, I am working on the car one day and then realize it was put on to hide roof damage from where a tree fell on the car because one side of the roof was higher then the other.
So, now I know when I see a vinyl roof on a car that should not have one (even though it looked kind of nice) that bad roof damage is probably under it. It is so easy to be scammed, I do not blame the victim for not knowing better, I blame the criminal.
were not talking about a 20 part here, at least im not. i was selling a vehicle for $9000
and was asked to western union $3000 to a "shipping agent". obvoiusly redflags were raised. however, being a larger purchase, 3000 dollars for shipping could be seen as reasonable. i only hesitated because he wanted me to take care of the shipping.
>It has nothing at all to do with what amount of time I spend on the web. Let's not let this degrade into personal attacks, o.k.?
personal?? no, but when someone mistakes ignorance for stupidity, i feel i must stand up and make a correction.
like fordbeast said: "there are a lot of friendly people" some of these people who fall for these scams actually feel like they're doing the buyer a favor by forwarding the shipping money.
the guy trying to get me was polite, grammatically correct, very punctual, and even offered prayers for myself and family, so at first impression, he was quite convincing.
-- Response I received after accepting online bid offer --
Thanks for your mail, so sorry for not getting back to you on time,Virus attacked my computer, note that the agent that will come pickup will asccess the item (car) before shippment commences.after reading the content of your mail ,I agreed on the price and,So you can send pix if avail ok,I also want to inform you that I have instructed the refund company indebted to me to issue payment in a certified cashier check of $6,450 which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by me from a cosmetic company in the state.but it did not workout because there was delay in the shippment of the goods I ordered.
Due to company policy this check has to be made out in this amount to you ,because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier check,so you are required to deduct the cost of your car which is $950 when payment gets to you and refund balance to my shipper agent for him to be able to offset shipping arrangement on time Confirm this and provide Legal Name,Home Address or Office and phone number both cell, for check payment to be delivered to you via courier service.
