Repair air conditioning
I don't know what condition my a/c is, it wasn't working when I bought the truck. I want to rebuild/repair it , where do I start. The compressor turns by hand and there is no belt to it. I thought I'd put a belt on and see what happens. If nothing, what are some of the next steps to find what needs to be replaced. 1975 F250 360V8 factory air (the dash control unit has the word air conditioning in a handwritten type script.)

Start with the belt and go from there. You might just be surprised and find out it's working just fine. 
If it doesn't work then most likely you'll just need to get it recharged with some freon.
