could someone tell me how to adjust when the backup lights come on i have a colum shift someone told me i could adjust it on the colum is this true help me
Reverse light switch is on the trans, I have never heard of an adjustment for them as they work by the transmisson putting pressure on the ball on the end of the switch in the trans and convert's it over to a ground? I think, to turn on the reverse light's.
I have a 1976 250 with a C6 and my adjustment is on the top side of the lower end of the colum. There are two screws that need to be loosened, then slide the switch. Be careful, this switch also controles the starter lockout and it could start up in drive. In many cases this switch gets warn out and needs to be replaced. Good luck.
The ranger is a little off on his diagnosis. I believe the 78 & 79s have the neutral safety switch on the tranny, all others have them on the column. Mine do, at least. The neutral safety switch is in the cab at the firewall. It is on top of the column. There is a small metal finger/tab that sticks out of the column and actuates the neutral safety switch. Check for this first. Chances are it just fell off. If it is there, check for power to the switch. If there is power, replace the switch.
Good luck,

OOOPS!!! I guess I assumed (bad mistake, won't do it again) LMAO that the early model's were the same as the 78-79. I still did not know that they incorporated the N/S switch with the reverse light's, I thought all had a seperate switch on the tranny. My BAD
