This is a great thread! I can almost hear the collective gears whirring from my hotel room.

The 145 is about what I estimated the trucks would go (140) if you factor in some drag. Horsepower required to go 200 probably will be in the 1500 range since a lot can be done to improve the aerodynamics of the truck itself.

I think above 150 mph, I'd remove the tailgate altogether and maybe modify it into a spoiler to put on top the cab

I have had a couple of trucks that would run 125+ with witness in attendance. I have found from experience that the truck is slower but handles better with the tailgate up. With the tailgate down the truck is so light in the back end that it was all over the road bad enough that it scared me. If you remove the tail gate you must attach a wing.

By the way this was on a paved section line road in the oil field south east of Midland Texas. It ran straight and flat for nearly 50 miles with one jog about half way. They have an open road race there every year.

You might fabricate a bracket that would hold it part way up. Just experiment how much.

There is no other vehicles on the road that have the combination of speed, acceleration, handling, off-road capability, ride quality, towing performance and interior luxury of the SD. Not a viper, not a lambourghini, not a jacked up jeep, not a cadillac, not a porsche. When it comes to all around capability---we are kings of the road. That is, unless you think the Chevy HD's are better...

the "Texas Mile"

OK all you bad boys from Texas, here's your chance to put you 6.0's where you mouth is. I've answered threads about Bonneville and run there but it's hard to do and expensive with tires, fire systems, fire suits, etc. Here's your chance. Go to www.TexasMile.com and put your hopped up diesel to the test (maybe your stocker too) and write us back what happened. I think their first meet is this weekend. I believe they are a little bit leinent on the rules other land speed trials at El Mirage in Ca. and Maxton in N.C. have. We had a stretched out rear engine Datsun Pickup run 154+ at El mirage this weekend. It ran in unlimited diesel truck with a turbo/roots combo 471.
