I am replacing my NP435 with a beefed AOD here in the next week or so, and in a "pre-op inspection" of sorts, I recognized that I will have to do something to mount the transfer case shifter..
On these Highboys such as my '76, there is a pivot point for the lever that mounts to the side of the NP435 tranny, and I'm wondering how I will attach it to the AOD.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? I need to get in there and take some careful measurments to see how easily I could fabricate something for it to bolt to, if anyone has been down that road before, I'd be stoked to hear from them!
I fabricated one out of 1/4" plate and 2, 9/16"-12
nuts. I carefully measured the location from every view and bolted it to two of the tail-shaft housing bolts. I used 1/4" longer bolts where the 1/4" plate parts bolter on. I TIG welded it together and then use the stock shifter mounting bolt.
ahh.. thats a resourceful bit of engineering you did there.. i'm no longer worried about the situation, as it sounds very easy to fabricate an appropriate piece.. I was worried about clearances around crossmembers and the floor of the cab, as I have only been looking at this so far with the body completely removed from my rig.. Sounds like it'll be a smooth operation. Thank You for the insight!!
