Actually,I cant really tell. But,I figure since no oil companies will reveal how much synthetic oil is actually in synthetic blend,I would just make my own. They could add as little as 2 drops of synthetic to a dino oil and call it a blend. My blend,I know how much is in it.
Blue Oval, I like it! While it's not a full synthetic, it boosts the overall performance of the dino oil. I do the same, only with Mobil products, 10w30 and 10w30 Mobil 1. All of my yard equipment run on Mobil 1 oil, never any problems. Here's another real life story you'll never see in a Mobil 1 commercial. In our family room, with a cathedrel ceiling (approx. 18' high) we have a casablanca type fan hanging down from the ceiling, about ten years old. It works fine, but last month developed a high pitched and annoying squeeking sound. One Saturday afternoon, I climbed up on a ladder, spun the blades and gave it a shot of wd-40. Turned it on, quiet. About an hour of it running, it began to squeek again. I figured a bearing, or something inside must be going bad, time for a new ceiling fan. A week went by, not using the fan. Climbed up again on a whim, and shot it with some PB Blaster. Same thing, quiet for about an hour, only this time the wife nagged and complained the next 6 days because of the lingering "aroma" from the PB Blaster. Then last Sunday, as it was getting warmer outside, we really needed the fan on. Poured some Mobil 1 in a small oiler, and climbed back up on the ladder. Put about 3-4 drops of Mobil 1 down the shaft area, and a drop or two on the back. Turned on fan. Not only did it spin noticeably at a faster clip, it was mute quiet! I thought, okay, after an hour it will be sqeeking again. At least the wife was happy, and we were enjoying the cool breeze of the ceiling fan once again. Watched the entire CoCa Cola 600 Nascar race. Fan quiet! Fan ran non-stop until midnight. Quiet. Everyday this week, in use from 4pm to around 11pm. Fan is quiet and turning perfectly thanks to some golden drops of Mobil 1. What can I say? I'm very happy, saved some $ and the time to rewire and replace the ceiling fan I was expecting to do after the PB Blaster experiment failed.
That's the problem with WD-40 and equivalents, they evaporate.
FWIW, I think any motor oil would have done the same thing. I always use 30 weight for around the house lube. Door hinges, garage doors, I even use it for gun oil. I even use it to quiet down computer fans when they start making noise. Take 'em apart and put a little on the bearing / bushing. Works great and is cheap.
