6.0L fuel mileage

I've put about 2400 miles on my '04 F-350 crew srw 4x4 and have been a little dissappointed with fuel mileage. Can't really complain about 15 mpg in a truck this big, especially when diesel is about .25 cheaper than reg gas. Can I expect to see an increase anytime soon?

Don't know where you call home, but diesel here is now MORE expensive than high test gas, 2.49 a gallon!! and climbing fast.. Is it just my truck,, or does the first 1/4 tank or so drop like a lead brick!! Then,, slow to about half, with decent levels/usage for the rest of the gauge.. Mine seems to get around 14/16 combined.. Going on a trip this weekend and I'll get a more accurate highway MPG.. I'd really like to get a Predator (65hp tune) estimate one way, and stock going home, to see if there's an improvement "and" how much. It almost seems as if the tank is "pyramid" shaped!!!!

Lets hope they stretch a few more gallons/mile with some use, or Ford comes up with a program/flash that can help.. SOON...

Mine has 5650; I have a Supechips microtuner on 150 horse performance setting. I drive with the pedal bending the firewall - 14 around town, and 19 on the highway...this is with black smoke pouring every time i get the chance. If i drive very easy (which is very rare) its gets about 15.5/21. Im extremely happy with the mileage, especially considering the power. I am also running stock exhaust, the tuner is the only mod on the truck. Diesel here is also about a quarter a gallon cheaper here in western NC.

My '03 F350 gets 15mpg average with an AFE intake, turbo back Magnaflow exhaust and Predator set to tow mode. Even in stock tune with the 10/03 flash never has done better than 16mpg. But can't complain, didn't buy it for economy, bought it to pull with and it sure does it well.

Thanks for the input. Feel better now that I know I'm getting par for the course. As far as the fuel gauge, I've noticed a rapid drop between full and 3/4 too. I get about 120 miles before the gauge moves off full, then about 35-40 from full to 3/4. It goes back to a normal rate after that.

On the fuel gauge, I squawked about mine. On the OASIS says found no problem. I spoke with the diesel tech and he says most are that way. Shows full for a long time and then drops off quickly. Then levels out.

Didnt notice any fuel mpg gains with the predator, just black smoke from the tail pipe and white smoke from the tires. Guess this is normal.. LOL. Just turned 10,000 on her and she avgs. 14 to 16 combined. Started out new at about 12 to 15...

DOESNT anyone think those are bad mpgs, for a diesel my 7.3 got 15 mpg pulling 10k and 20 to 24 on the highway empty. My f250 5.4 gas burner gets 17mpg on the hwy. thats the main reason I bought a diesel for fuel econ. and pulling power.

I guess it's a matter of expectations...
we have a 7 or 8K lb truck... and it does what it does...

I RARELY worry about fuelage...
but those that do should have had an idea of what the truck CAN and SHOULD do....

Remember, you can't get something from nothing...

This smaller displacement 6-oh generates MUCH more power and has more EPA requirements it has to meet... so it takes away from the mileage...
maybe the Ford claim of increase mileage was something like:
"Think how bad it would be WITHOUT these improvements"

OK lets do some math for fun………..
Average year of driving….say 15000
At 14.5 that is 1,034 gallons at…..less say for argument sake 1.69 = $1,747.46
Now less go to 17.1 is 877 at = 1,482.45 delta of 265.01 Dollars.
Less go the other way 12.2 = 1,229 = $2,077.86 delta of $ 330.44 ....THIS A YEAR.

Come on guys this is a 7k TRUCK, if you want MPG by a VW Golf
I really have a VERY hard time with all this talk about MPG, do the math.

Go for the rebuttals.
My math OK?

Better check me!

!
I did not buy my truck for MPG's but I am a little surprised at the 15 MPG I have been getting even though it is a heavy truck. Our '94 and '99 7.3 PSD' are just as heavy and get better mileage. They also have more than the 5000 miles I have so I guess I should wait until I hit 100,000 before I compare the two. The VW Golf Diesel gets around 48 MPG's and has quite a bit of power. I don't know if it could pull a 10k trailer though.
