I like your math Tim, The only problem in SoCal is the diesel is $2.30-2.55/gal. That's why I use my Honda Civic HX for work. Averages 38 mpg.

Diesel here is still around $1.65/gal.

With a lot of city driving, I've been averaging 15.3 mpg. The last tank came in at 16.3, but I'm still under 5000 miles.

Nice to be back on the board, BTW. For some reason, I haven't been able to open this site for a month.

I just logged 15.1 going up Snoqualmie Pass with cruise control on 70. I went to Canada yesterday and will be filling up again today to see if anything has changed. I have 5500 miles.

The problem is that Ford started it by saying in Oct 02 that the 6.0L would get 8% improved fuel economy and 20% reduction of NOX emissions over the 7.3. Then Ford issued the Oct/Dec flashes.

I tried to get an idea of this on my thread over in the Super duty/Heavy duty section by having people post prices of fuel arounf the country and their MPG's but nobody does it. Your lucky that diesel is cheaper where your at because from what i see on my thread diesel has usually been about even with the premium prices. BTW, I get 15-16 mixed and 18 so far on the highway but that was in the winter. Put Power Service centane diesel additive and that will give you some help with the MPG's, maybe 1MPG more. Also calculate you mileage don't trust the computer as it can be inacurate depending how much fuel you squeeze into you tank. And also reset the computer when ever you fill up so that it can be more accurate.

Iam with SBV45 on this one ford told us that the 6.0 would do 8% better than the 7.3 which is one of the reasons I traded but if it just did as good as 7.3 I would be happy. not even close.

My first freeway trip after purchase (21 miles on the truck) was a 30 mile trip to work, and driving easy (60mph or so) the overhead console said "21 mpg" when I got there. Now I know some of you have doubts about the accuracy of the console, but even so on a brand new motor this sounds pretty good!

No, some of us don't doubt the overhead...

ALL of us know about the lie-o-meter :-)

The "sometimes it's right" meter may be a better name for it, because a random number generator would be right more times than that thing !!!!

I think it's a sales and marketing conspiracy to show those high numbers on the test drive to get you to sign on the bottom line...

(he says with tongure firmly implanted in cheek !)

Come on guys this is a 7k TRUCK, if you want MPG by a VW Golf
I really have a VERY hard time with all this talk about MPG, do the math.

Go for the rebuttals.
My math OK?

Better check me!
Your math looks fine. The mpg question comes on the heels of purchasing a truck with certain expectations after reading several accolades on the new 6.0L with respect to fuel mileage. Since I don't know a lot of other owners who have experience with the new engine, just thought I'd ask on FTE and see if my truck is performing on par. As for the VW Golf, I'm a Ford Truck Enthusiast, that's why I bought it.

My problem is......Ford wrote a 8% increase over the 7.3.............8% of what.
There is no published numbers, they just said 8% over............hum…. how can anyone have expectations on something that has a minimum of 50 variables.
The things you read did they project actual MPG?
I am not betting you, so do not think so….PLEASE don't, this is an ongoing delama with 6.0 owners.......me too.

When I was purchasing my truck, I asked about Mpg, the salesman said "Ford will not quote numbers on the diesels". I asked why and he said "it's too difficult to get reliable ratings on Mpg because of too many factors". I had no idea what he meant by that.. he also said that GM and Dodge don't quote as well.. I didn't check on that.. but I figured I was in for some poor mileage... and I was right.
