Mopars fit quite well in the back aisle of the wrecking yard, LOL! Actually, I kind of like some of the older mopars, and of course the Hemi's I just kind of hold a grudge against them because they discontinued the Sunbeam Tiger at the end of '67 just 'cause they didn't like selling a car with a Ford motor in it through the Chrysler dealerships, and then having to warranty it. And all their V8s were too big to fit.
Hey, I was wrong. Ford did indeed make two different 410 CID engines. The first was part of the MEL (383, 410, 430, 462) family, is was rated at 345 HP, and used in the 1958 Edsel Citations and Corsairs. The second 410 was a two year only (1966 and 1967) stroked version of a 390. It was used only in the full sized Mercury line, and was rated at 330 HP. So, there was an FE 410. You learn something new everyday.
Just a nonsense aside to this....my 7 year old was asking questions about motors after watching the mud and monster video I bought him. He now refers to large engines as "Mountain Motors". I think he gets it. He also got two two point bucks today on the "Trophy Buck" computer game. Mom & Grandma are appalled.
Ah, therein lies the rub...a BIG BLOCKHEAD is usually quite small in terms of cubic inches, but I don't believe there are any definite limits! It's sort of a matter of degrees!
In my expierience Ford Big Blocks are 460,429, 428, 427 side-oiler,400M, 351M, 390,360, all "Big-Block" 289,302, 351W, "Small Block" An easy way to tell on the old ones anyway the Transmission Generally Ford Big Blocks had the Heavy C6 and the small blocks ALWAYS ran C4's
Welcome to FTE Whitford. This thread is from 2004. Do you enjoy digging up dead horses and beating them? Stay away from any thread that discusses BB vs. SB. Try to stay in this year. Good luck.

Those Crazy Ford guys! No wonder Chevy boyz can't deal with Ford stuff!
i think that maybe the c4/c6 idea... on which one backed which motor wouldnt really be a big help in indentifying a bb or sb...
Not really, as I have a C6 with the small-block pattern that came behind a 351C in a '72 Ranchero GT and so will of course bolt right up to a 302 or smaller. Used to have an E250 van with a C6 behind a 351W as well.
