I am getting ready to install a new cam on my 1970 Bronco. It's been 20 years since I last put a cam in a bronco. The memory has faded. Does anyone have advice or suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Always use new lifters with a new cam.
Used a harmonic balancer tool to remove and replace the balancer (never a Hammer).
Be sure to replace the timing set at the same time and it wouldn't hurt to have a new gear installed on your distributor.
New push rods and springs should also be used.
Run the engine at about 2000 rpm for about 10 minutes when you first start the engine back up.
Change your oil after break in.
Just line up the marks on the timing gears. There is no such thing as 180 off. The cam desides weather you are on the compression stroke or exhast stroke. Just leave the number one exhast plug out and check for compression before droping the distributor back in, or leave the valve cover off and wach the valves open and close.
Like cabronco said, new lifters for sure and buy a good cam assembly lube and use plenty of it on the lobes and lifter journals. No vasaline there.
Thanks for the input! How much torque do you use for the valve springs? And should you use less torque on the valve springs for the initial start up of the engine? Thanks
