Our 94 3.0 aero shorty has developed an odd problem. It starts fine , idles decent when first started, but before it reaches operating temperature (first couple of miles) it misses badly at idle, almost stalls and misses on acceleration. Once it reaches operating temp, it idles pretty well and generally runs ok. We've recently replaced the distributor, plugs and wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, alternator, belts and idler pulleys, trans servo switch, oxyen sensor and a small piece of hose (cracked, dried out) from the pcv valve to another adjacent electrical vaccum switch. I also replaced the air box last year as it was badly broken / cracked and was letting unfiltered air into the engine.
I cleaned the throttle body and the IAC last night. This seemed to smooth out the idle somewhat, but didn't help the mid temp problem. I was thinking of replacing the IAC and the fuel pressure regulator, but wanted a few opinions before I started throwing parts at it.
I would check very closely for vacuum leaks. You can check for them by spraying Carb Medic or something similar at anywhere there could be a leak such as the intake manifold, vacuum fittings etc. If the idle changes when you spray you've found a leak.
I've been looking for a vaccum leak and the only one I found was the short tube from the PCV valve to some sort of vaccum solenoid. BTW, anybody know what this solenoid is called?
I'm curious how a vaccum leak could only cause an idle problem at a particular temperature and not all the time.
OK, I'll try a different approach. Can anybody tell what sensors, valves, solenoids, etc. contribute to driveability at mid temp (not stone cold, but not operating temp either) on a 3.0 V6?
Has anyone tried cleaning the ACT sensor on a 3.0?
