I have put glasspacks on every V8 I have ever owned. I don't now exactely how the muffler makes the popping sounds. The sound depends on the engine. I had a high compression 400M with glasspacks and everytime I started it up it sounded like I was shooting a shotgun off in my driveway. There is absolutely nothing ricey about glasspacks. There are loud, mean and sound good especially when you down shift. You can't beat the price either. If you want loud go with a 12 inch glasspack and turn the pipes out right in front of the back wheels. I have heard that glasspacks are a redneck's Flowmaster. There ain't nothing wrong with being a redneck though.

it depends on what ur putting it on................a 6 or 4 will sound a lot different than than a 4oom.............just do like me and dont have anything....cats and straight pipe...........its loud....if thats what u want....
my buddy had glasspacks on his old school Galaxy 500 2 door convertable, they sounded the part on that car....classic sound for a classic car ya know and the popping sound was like sweet music from a classic like that
I have a 1999 F-150 4.2 SCAB with and AUTO. Since there are four cats on the truck I figured that I was not in need of a muffler, so after the cats it is 3" straight pipe all the way back. I am going to make a recording if anybody wants to hear it, e-mail me. BMWGerman@hotmail.com. Yeah I know BMW, I gotta work somewhere!
do you guys think putting a glass pack on the 4.2 V6 with the exhaust and tip coming out the side before the rear tire on the right side would sound good??? I have an appointment to get exhaust THIS FRIDAY and I need an idea/plan of what to get that will be loud and yet not make me lose torque?
It would sound good and I don't think you would lose any torque that you would notice. I have pretty close to the same setup on a 302. It goes from headers then about two feet of pipe then a twelve inch glasspack the dumps out right in front of the back wheel. It's loud but it is also a V8. Keep in mind the diameter of your pipe also. A two inch pipe will give you more volume than a 2.5, also the shorter the glasspack the louder it is. 12 being loudest and 18 and 24's not so loud. Hope this helps.
It is Wednesday night now, and I pretty much have my plan set for a two inch pipe coming out of the cat, 12 in. glasspack, then one tip or two tips coming out together on the right side before the rear tire. hope all goes well and wish me luck with my first engine mod. guys!!
I might have a change of plan when I arrive to the garage Friday though, after talking to the guy in charge just to see what the best way would be to give the V6 good volume but yet gain power w/o losing torque.
I think my plan sounds good, what do the rest of you think about this exhaust setup??? If I could get a few last pointers and tips it would be appreciated be anyone.
please explain to homeboy that a "glasspack" is NOT a cherry bomb or thrush resinator pipe. I know i used to think that too but the "REAL" glasspacks arent $15.99 at advance auto parts. unless i was informed wrong but i am pretty sure they arent the same by looking at the glasspacks friends have on their classics and comparing, they LOOK similar but arent.
Homer, I think the glasspacks would sound decent...I've never actually heard them on a 4.2 before though. As far as loosing torque...it really all depends. I know that if you run a 40 series flowmaster and due true duals out the back, you will loose torque down low, but you will have more high end passing power. Also, the larger the piping, the more high end power you will have to an extent while sacrificing low end torque...at least that's what I've been told. I think your setup wouldn't make you loose any torque, and if it did it would not be noticable.
BTW, you just need to buy a Diablo chip...then you will have 0 torque worries.
Yea thanks alot Joe. The diablo chip is always mentioned haha. I think I am going to be getting one this summer, probably around the beginning of July/end of June.. Are the chips hard to install/use, seeing that I'm only 16 I'm not a genius of trucks like you guys are yet, but I will be someday .
