I am installing the lower intake manifold back on to my 2.9 and have a couple of questions regarding the new gasket.
It is a felpro gasket which is in one piece for both left and right with perforation which would appear to let it bend to from over both sides. Do I just install it as one piece leaving the centre piece in?
Should I install it dry with just RTV on the end pieces?
Yes, install the whole thing as one piece, the perfs. are just to let it bend. Does your gasket have cork end pieces, or none at all? Felpro seems to make them both ways, I just got a Felpro head set and the int. man. gasket has no end pieces at all, but come with a small tube of black RTV to make your own. On the other hand, I took the heads on a scattered 2.9 the other day, and it had a Felpro gasket with the cork end pieces. If you have the cork, just use a dab of RTV at the corners, go sparingly with it. A lot of people seem to thing that more is better with silicone, and it can end up all through the engine. Also on the cork, I like the red High Tack gasket sealer, it helps hold the gasket in place instead of acting like a lubricant and allowing the gasket to squeeze out when you tighen things down as the silicone can do. Don't use any sealer on the rest of the gasket-it is self-sealing. -TD
Thanks thats what I thought. It did not have any end seals and came with the RTV.
Another question, this was a rebuilt engine I put in with a new oil pump etc.
I have 60PSI oil pressure at cold, once she has really warmed up say about 20 minutes at 80Kmh I get about 15PSI at idle and at 80KMH about 40PSI. Does this sound O.K,? I would be happer seeing another 5 to 10PSI. I am running 10w30.
The only thing I am wondering is that my pressure gauge is a cheap mechanical "Sunpro" gauge with the nylon capillary tube and I am unsure just how accurate it is.
15psi sounds a tad low for idle, mine is 20psi and to my knowledge it hasn’t been rebuilt. But 40psi cruising and 60psi cold sounds right. I wouldn’t be worried about it though. Also, if its old oil the reading may be lower.

From what I've heard, that cheap Sunpro gauge is still probably more accurate than the stock electric gauge, which of course doesn't give you any psi readings. I agree with ranger_man's answer as well, however you might see a little improvement by switching to 20w50. -TD
ireplaced the headgasket and alsothemainfold gaset torq tospec.started the engine knocking noise than a backfire out of the egr than white smoke.engine warmed up. water in the oil. i replaced the manifold gasket again same thang just water in the oil. drained the oil it was a white color. leaving the drain plug open i filled my radiator and water would come out of the drain plug. what do i do. i thought that everything was going good what happened?
Did you check the heads while you had them off to make sure they wern't cracked? What was your reason for pulling the heads in the first place? It sounds like you have a very big leak between the cooling system and the crankcase. Are you sure you got the headgaskets on correctly, facing the right way and correct side up? Have you done a compression test? -TD
