Help!!
I have a 99psd 100k miles. I was driving home from work today and my truck sputtered like it ran out of diesel, but kept running. I limped home and shut the truck off. I still had a quarter of tank of fuel left. I drained the fuel bowl, installed a new fuel filter. The old one was not that dirty, but I decided to change it anyway. Started the truck same problem. The truck ran but acted like it was only running on 4 cylinders. While it was running no white smoke came out the tail pipe indicating water in the fuel. What should I do?
I am lost please help with any suggestions...
Thanks in advance for the advice

My first guess from those symptoms is always the CMP Sensor. I would recommend changing it first. If it ends up not being the problem, which at 100K miles it most likely is, keep the old one for a spare. It will fail at some point.

ok forgive me for not rembering the correct name but right there at the valve covers, I believe it is the whole gasket assembly, it can be burned up, or the harness that wraps around the engine. My 95 did the same thing and I ended up going to about 10 different junkyards to get the harness and even there it ran about 150, but check the plugs on the inboard side of the gaskets and see if that helps.

WOW! Please don't laugh at me for this one...I was about to tear my hair out when I decided to try and see if the lifter pump was working corectly. After spewing diesel all over my driveway I decided to crank her again....It lit right off...The moral of the story is check the easy things before the more $ones ie(diesels don't like air) Blead the air out through the fuel bowl. Well I can breath again I guess I needed to buy a spare CMP anyway.
Thank you all for the great advise. Props to everyone on this form
