Hello everyone,
I did a bad thing. I took the guy behind the counter's advise at Adv. Auto and bought and installed Bosch Platinum Plugs for my V-10 X about a month ago. Big mistake. Seems the regular Platinum Bosch plugs dont offer the proper resistance for the v-10.
I've experienced a loss of power over the last few weeks and after some research came to this conclusion. I bought a set of Auto-lite double platinum plugs and installed yesterday and I can tell you the power difference and response is amazing. BIG DIFFERENCE.
Anyway, I reset the computer on the truck, now the truck is running a little rough on occasion and has been difficult to start on 2 occassions.
Does it take a few days for the computer to catch back up? I hope I am experiencing these slight problems due to the computer re-learning everything. Any thoughts?

****Changing plugs in a V-10 Excursion is a bear, doing it twice in a month is a $@#&*!!!!
Hope that the plugs you had in the engine didn't roast a coil or something like that....doubtful, but that's why you are given factory recommendations to follow.
I don't know how OBD-2 is with this, but my 94 Ranger supposedly takes 7 miles or so (Haynes manual says...) to relearn its settings when I pull the ECM fuse to clear the computer.
If you have auto tranny, that might take longer, but it wouldn't really explain the starting issue.
IF you had the Bosch plugs in for a few weeks, I would say you might have cooked a coil pack or something else in the ignition. If it is a coil pack problem, that would be a situation where you probably wouldnt get a check engine light. I would take it and get the packs checked out before I did anything else. I agree with you on the Autolite Double Platinums. I've used them my last two plug changes and they do seem to improve throttle response just a tad.
I am running with Bosh plugs now with no problems. I think if you changed the plugs and are still having the problem you are making an assumption that the Bosh plugs were the problem. I think that might be wrong, the computer will be running right in no time.
Everything has levelled out. The engine is running like a champ now. Thank god it wasnt a coil pack like some of you suggested it might be. Thanks for the quick responses. This forum and everyone subscribed to it are awsome!
We are getting ready to take the Excursion out on a trip to florida and I was a little concerned. This will be our first trip in this vehicle. Hopefully it will be an uneventful 800 mile trip.
Just a side note, I have read alot of threads concerning a ticking, tapping sound coming from these v-10s. I started experiencing this also AFTER I installed the Bosch plugs. Since I changed to the Autolite Double Plats the sound is now gone. Hmmm? Hope this helps someone trouble-shoot.
I have to agree with you guys on the Autolite Double Plats. My wife was complaining about her Explorer running a little sluggish. When I started pulling the old plugs I found someone had put Bosch Platinum’s in her car on the last change. Although I could see nothing visibly wrong with the Bosch plugs and the gap was still OK I replaced them with new Autolite doubles and I immediately noticed a difference on the pedal, much better response.
