Hi all, new member with a prob. I just got a '90 F-250 with the cat cut out and dual pipes from there the mufflers are 2.5" super turbos and the problem I have with them other than the hollow sound is that they resonate so bad that the floor vibrates. It is worst at 62Mph or 2000 Rpm, By the way I am in northern Canada and it is perfectly legal to run without cats (no emissions). Can anybody recomend a fix for this or better mufflers. I refuse to run Ultraflow muffs because they are just expensive glasspacks, Had some and they were burned out after about a month, Anybody run the Flowmaster Force 2 system without the cat? Any help or comments are appreciated
I used to have a 90 F350 with a 460
I had the force ll system on it without cats for a couple months, no interior resonance but it was too quiet for me so I took the 70 series muffler out that comes with force ll systems and replaced it with an original 40 series flowmaster. The 40 series had a little interior resonance but not enough to be annoying, sounded better too.
i would just go with the 40series and be done with it, get the origanals also, the delta flows will be quieter, and if it is still to lowd then you can get some muffler covers that strap ontop of them to keep to tone out of the cab.
Well I am gonna get it when I can afford it, I am also looking at the Ravin Z-77 Muffler, any ideas on that one? I have heard a cat back setup on a 01 dodge with a 318 and sounded exactly like what i am looking for but it was on a small block so the 460 is gonna be alot quieter
im not shure i have not herd them before, but just on a side note, if you want somthing cheaper, i have herd a few people swear by the raptor turbo's, i have yet to try them, but for 15-20$ a piece its worth a try. not to mention i think you have that backlwards, the 460 is lowder than the smallblocks
Well I had a Raptor on my Car and it leaked at all the seams. As far as the 460 being louder, yes with dual exaust and mufflers like glasspacks or other straight through mufflers and large diam. pipe. But with a single system they are normally quieter because they tend to flow more through the same size pipe. Of course that is just what I have come to notice, different vehicles have different sounds though.
I have two Flowmaster 50 series delta flows on my 460 and they sound great. Quiet while driving down the highway but have a good rumble you give it some throttle.
I just crawled under my truck again to see what is going on, it got louder inside again, I found that if I cover one tail pipe it will go quieter because of all the exaust going out one pipe, but if i cover the other it stays the same, I started checking and found that that pipe has a line from the air pump running into it. So I talked to a shop and they said that the guts probly got blown apart due to backfiring on decel, if so that would explain the bad resonance. Anyone ever heard of this happening? will be replacing them as soon as one falls off, probly within the next month with the roads I drive on. Looks like the flowmaster 50's will be the muffs of choice on this one.
