Tire Size Question
I have a 1997 Ford F-250 light duty extended cab 4X4 that is gasoline powered. I am wanting to give the truck more height and also go to a more aggressive looking tire. I am also not committed to going with a body lift yet and would rather not go that route (wife and kids already complain about the current height as it is).
Currently, my truck has Firestone Steel Tex A/T LT265/75R16's on it. I have been told by several sources that the largest tire that I could go with would be a 285/75R16 and decided to go down and look at some at the tire store. The worst case scenario that I have been told if I did this, was that I'd have to use a spacer on the backside of the wheel to allow for clearance when turning, etc. I found a mudder type like I wanted in that size and the guy in the store looked out the window at my truck and told me that they wouldn't fit as they wouldn't be able to clear when turning, etc. I called another store and they told me that this was incorrect and that they would fit and also would clear.
So I am still where I was at this morning. Money to spend, but still no new tires. What's the right answer? If I go with the 285/75R16's will they fit? Will I have the clearance? I only want about 2" more of height and this would work just fine if it's possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The tire sticky at the top will have the answers you need...the LD250 will fit the same size tires that a regular 150 will take.http://www.fordtrucks.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=206398
The 285/75r16 will be the biggest you can go with out rubbing.
