anybody replace their interior carpet? on my 91 ext i took out the back part from the tail gate to the back of the front seats over the week end to clean. i found a lot of dampness, some water under this silver looking board under the carpet (must be some kinda heat reflector thing).seems like it would be better to just replace it all with something like indoor-outdoor stuff. any thoughts? i'd like it to look acceptable to the wife and still be able to haul stuff and clean up easily. i also want to try to thoroughly clean the seats ,that spray stuff just doesn't get the dirt out. anybody have any luck with anything? just wonderen rick
91 aerostar xl,ext 4.0 litre aka "the green bean"

Rick, Here is a link to an aftermarket carpet replacement for the Aerostar. Indoor/outdoor carpet would remind me too much of Bill Clinton's '******* wagon'. www.1aauto.com/1A/Carpets/Ford/
thanks for the info aero! , i was thinking of maybe going more industrial than the previous carpet. i'm probably the one to blame for getting the water all over it,seeping thru it with stuff i leave on it. i ..went turkey hunting this spring, got nothing but wet several times, tossed gear in van.forgot to get it out till much later. did the same in deer season.( kinda hard to clean when its freezing out in winter though).maybe a rubber mat would be more appropriate. when i had a truck i had a bed liner of rubber, but it smelled strongly , couldn't tolerate that in the van (and my wife would kill me). i was thinking of recovering the bench seats in camo !! cool huh? yea, my wife thinks i'm nuts too....i'll be pondering. rick :0
You can use the standard carpet, but cover it with the industrial stuff to protect it. I did something like that with mine; I cut up a piece of carpet remnant and put it in the back ehind the rear becnh, and hung an old throw rug over the back seat back to protect them from the off-road biking equipment that I haul.
I have discovered water under some of my carpet as well, but I suspect that's from leakage around the side window trims. Someone on this group talked about getting at and sealing those leaks. It involved removing the plastic walls that extend all the way to the driver's seat.
now that you mention it, i recall that too. i know they leak in the car wash.(side windows) i may remove those panels if i get the chance. i already have all the back seats out...any thoughts on cleaning the seats? i have thought about removing the covers (if possible) and sending them through the wash machine when my wife isn't looking. i used a can of spray foam cleaner, but results were not the best. rick
