So I checked my codes, and came out with 67 + 85 on the KOEO test, and 41 + 91 on the CM test. I did this per the instructions on fordfuelinjection.com.
I looked up what the codes mean, and have no idea what to make of them. Can anyone make sense of this?
*Edit*- read that the 67 is because my clutch wasn't in...so 1 down.
Would they have anything to do with the fact that my fuel injector firing order is on the 5.0 HO order..while the spark order is still the original 5.0's order? I put a MAF conv. kit in it....info and details are in that link.
I wouldn't worry about the 67 and 85 - the 67 is because there isn't a connection from pin 10 to the clutch switch, then back to pin 46. I got that one with my MAF conversion as well. It will prevent you from getting KOER codes, or at least it did with my truck. You don't have a canister purge valve on the truck, so that's why that codes is coming up, so I wouldn't worry about that one either - it shouldn't affect how the engine runs. 41 and 91 are O2 sensor lean codes, for left bank and right bank. I don't know how the conversion kit accounts for this, but with my swap, I split the O2 signal wire into the two inputs on the mustang computer. I'd trace the O2 sensor wiring and make sure there are no breaks in it, or disconnected plugs. I ran with the O2 sensor unplugged for a while, and it always threw those two codes. Also make sure you have good grounds everywhere - bad grounds can cause lots of problems. Look for an orange wire with a ring terminal bolted down near the back of the engine - this is the O2 sensor ground, and if that isn't connected, will cause lots of problems. Another problem might be getting the O2 sensor heater grounded properly. The O2 sensor will always read lean if the heater isn't functioning. I don't know if this is causing the truck to run like you are describing, but it wouldn't hurt to get this O2 thing worked out. It could be a lean missfire, which would need to be remedied soon before something breaks. The other problem sounds like ignition problems, which could also be caused by a bad ground. Check grounds, and check for vacuum leaks as well - that can cause a lean condition as well. Good luck, and if you need me to explain something, let me know.
Goin in the shop next wed. but thanks for the advice I'm gonna check that before I send it in. Been sitting for 2 days....drove it all day today and it was 90% fine, not 1/2 as bad as 3 days ago.
My friend was behind me the other day and told me that I was getting some smoke out my exhaust when I shifted. He said mainly on my 1-2 upshift when giving it some gas and higher rpm...say shifting at 3500ish it would puff out a black cloud about a cubic foot on each pipe. I havn't seen it but that's what he said. That would lead me to think it is infact running rich. I wonder if I should swap the injector wires on the MAF kit to get the injector order correct, it's going to be awhile before I swap my 351 in now (lost my job).
