I want to paint the interior of the cab (not the floors because they will be black) and I also have to paint the doors and doorjams and also the firewall. I also want to paint the outside of the cab and the fenders and the bedsides and tailgate on my bed. (i dont have to worry about the inside of the bed because im ryno lineing it. So please let me know what you think it will take to paintthe truck. Right now i got 3/4 galion and 1/4gal of activator and when it mixes itll make a full galion of paint. Also How much primer will i need for the truck? How should i prep the truck to paint? The firewall got some greeze on it. Also how much clearclat will i need to do everythign im goign to paint?
thanks,
Jimmy
PS What kind of primer should i use grey or redoxide?
thanks again!
3/4 gallon of paint and 1/4 gallon of activator? Is that Dupont's Imron? Sounds about like the right amount for what you have to do, especially since you're clearcoating it. If it is Imron, (or any paint that doesn't require clearcoating) I wouldn't clear the cab inside or door jambs, just the outside of the truck. In that case, a gallon of clear (or 3/4, 1/4 package of clear) should be enough to do the outside. To prep the firewall, I'd use red scotch-brite pads soaked in wax & grease remover. Scuff, dry immediately, and it's ready to paint. Good way to do door jambs too.
Grey or red oxide is simply your color choice IMO. If by primer you're talking about a sealer coat, 2 quarts should probably be enough. I always prep for paint with 400 (or finer) wet sanding, or 320 or finer on a DA sander.
