I have had my Expedition for about a year and a half. The paint is blistering and bubbling on all for hubcaps all the way around the perimiter of the center portion of the cap.
Has anyone else seen this type of corrosion? I think this is far too premature to have these kind of cosmetic failures.
I noticed that on later Expeditions most have a totally chromed center hubcap. I wonder if I go hammer on the district rep if they would be willing to replace these... heck, even if I could get a break on the cost of new ones.
Dealer will replace these as long as normal condition are found. In most cases they will replace them. I have had the wiper arms replaced due to paint flacking off.
I think what's happening is the excessive brake dust is eating away the paint on them. Just like it's pitting the wheels if you don't clean them every couple of days.
that is probably what is happening. in this case you may have to work this out with the dealer. keep pushing them, I was able to get them to replace the brake pads and even made them replace one of my rims after they scratched it.
Ford will probably take it out on their supplier (I've been there), so they shouldn't give you too hard a time. To me, it sounds like an adhesion failure rather than corrosion.
Ya know I had a problem like this once, I had mags instead of caps. I was able to exchange two of the four from the dealer I bought 'em from due to the pealing.
After a week or so the same two began to do the same thing (replaced ones.)
Now you can take it for what it's worth "my problem" was a dog hiking his leg every morning when he made his rounds. The acid level is unreal and attacks chrome over a period of time. The dog would stop at the same two tires every morning.
