Out of these six oils and oil filters which combination would you choose for your vehicle? Base the oils on the base oil (group I, II, II+, ect...) and the additive package it has. Or on past personal experiences and the one you would use. Base the oil filter on flow, filtration, reputation, one you would use, ect... Well anyway, which one would you pick? Thanks everyone
1. Valvoline All Climate
2. Pennzoil w/PureBase
3. Castrol GTX
4. Havoline
5. SuperTech
6. Quaker State
1. Wix
2. Advance Auto TotalGrip
3. SuperTech
4. CHAMP
5. Purolator Premium Plus
6. FRAM
If I really HAD to pick of the above oils and filters, I'd pick the Castrol GTX and the Wix filter. Before I found out about the oil I use now, I had used GTX for a while and it seemed to work ok.
If I didn't have to pick from the above and could use any available, I would use Mystik JT-8 with a Napa Gold (wix but cheaper) filter.
Havoline or Pennzoil, due to Group II+ base oil and Moly in the additive pack.
Any filter but Fram, with Wix on top for construction with Super Tech the value choice.
I'm not as picky about filters. From the list, I use WIX very frequently. I get them from NAPA. I like Motorcraft and AC Delco just as well and they can usually be found at a big discount. But the auto parts stores are a lot quicker and more convenient than the discount department stores.
I used Mobil One 10W-30 and Motorcraft filters on my 93 F-150 gasser. A couple times I used the Purolator PureOne filters. But didn't notice any difference between the Motorcraft and the Purolator filter.
I'm cheap. I change the oil in my Buick at Wal-Mart, $11.84 plus tax, FRAM filter and the cheap 10W30 bulk oil. But I change my oil every 3-4 weeks because I drive it so much.
Now in my truck, I'll be changing it myself, at home, and I plan on using the NAPA Gold (Wix) filter and whatever oil is on sale and at least API SJ certified and preferably Energy Conversing II. There is an SL classification but I don't think all the cheaper brands have it yet. As long as I can buy SJ oil for under $1.25 a quart I don't particularly care what brand it is.
