Replaced PCV, hose, elbow, fuel filter. Checked all I could for vacuum leaks and or corroded hoses. I still get 0171 and -174 codes. 1998 with 85k miles. Do I bite the bullet and do the 02 sensors?? What do you all think??
Yep that is usual. For that mileage your truck is probably going to have more piddly repairs. Keep the oil changed at every 2000 miles and that truck will last a real long time as far as those sensors go that is normal. Mine went at 60,000miles good luck
The other thing you can do (cheap) is to clean the mass air flow sensor. Disconnect the halves of the filter housing (like you are going to replace the air filter) and look in the vehicle side. You will see a piece of rectangular black plastic sticking into the airstream. In this unit you will see two sets of metal "posts" sticking down with filaments between them. Ensure that the key is off (one of the elements is a heated element) and gently spray carb clean on these filaments until they become clean, being sure not to let any carb clean go down the air bellows (a few rags shoved right under where you are spraying works well). Then let it air dry, put it back together and rock and roll. Worth a shot before you do O2 sensors.

I did the above, except using brake cleaner spray cause it evaporates to nothing. Took a 340 mile trip and no cel!!!
