I would like a little more truck sound but still quite in the cab for my supercrew.I have heard that the flowmaster 70 single in dual out might be what I am looking for.I would like comments from you all that have added after market mufflers and pipes. Thanks guys.
shaper, do a search for "Mufflers" and you'll get an extensive listing of threads discussing muffler/exhaust. Try it out. I'm also in the market for an exhaust system. Good luck!
I've got the Flowmaster 70 series. From what you said your looking for I think it would fit the bill. Low rumble at idle and roars pretty good when I step on it but not too loud.
At about 1,000 miles.....I installed a Flowmaster 70 series Big Block II muffler, with dual 2.5" pipes out the right side of my truck (see pictures in my gallery)....and agree with what bigjack said previously.
However, at highway speeds of 55 to 65 MPH.....I had a VERY OBNOXIOUS, constant, "droning, moaning" sound INSIDE my truck.....which eventually, drove me crazy.....so at about 9,000 miles, I removed the Flowmaster 70 series and put the factory stock muffler and tailpipe back on my truck.
FYI.....and interestingly enough.....my MPG did NOT decrease at all.....and the engine now feels much stronger throughout it's entire RPM range, and it doesn't seem to be "gasping for breath" at higher RPM's like it did with the Flowmater 70 series installed. My truck sounds just fine, and I can now hear my audiophile system without having to crank up the volume.
My suggestion to you would be that if you want a "louder exhaust system", go ahead with some type of aftermarket "performance" muffler. But based on my experience with the Flowmaster 70 series Big Block II muffler, that is EXACTLY what you will get.....a LOUDER EXHAUST SYSTEM.....and NOTHING more!! As far as any performance or MPG increases are concerned.....don't count on getting much if any from just a muffler and/or tailpipe change. My firsthand experience from trying it BOTH ways proves that the advertised claims are just a bunch of horse@#$&, and aren't worth the paper they are printed on!!!!
If you truly want INCREASED PERFORMANCE.....save your money.....wait until your factory warranty expires.....then install a performance upgrade chip, high performance exhaust headers, high performance catalytic oxidizers, high performance mufflers and tailpipes, and a PROVEN cold air induction system. THEN and ONLY THEN....will you have what you are REALLY looking for!!
actually..... i think farting into the exhaust system will flow better than flowmaster...... Get dynomax ultra flows or magnaflow wide open mufflers, they flow WAY better than fartmaster.
I have to agree with fanman. Most of these hp booster mpg boosters are rip offs. There's no data to show they really work. If you want a loud sounding truck, go for it, but don't expect much more than that.

I don't have any droning at highway speeds, actually at highway speeds it sounds stock untill I step on it. Sounds like you may have had a faulty installation fanman. I don't have any illusions about performance inreases, I put mine on solely for the sound.
I also had a flowmaster and agree with all of u on the sound of flowmaster. It wasn't a true flow sound. I ended up taking it off after about 2 months because i was sick of hearing it. I did not notice any change in MPG or horse power. I ended up with nothing excepted the 4 stock cadilitic converters and straight pipe to the end. I was looking for sound only, and to me it sounds GREAT now. You may not want that much sound, but the flowmaster isn't the way to go if u ask me.
All I am looking for is the sound, not hp or mile per gal. Would like almost stock sound in the cab and some rumble when I get on it.Please give me some advice on what muffler if any would be the best for that.
if u don't mind noise in the cab then straight pipe behind the stock cats. all the way to the bumper would be the way to go, it will be agressive. I think it sounds GOOD ! Don't get me wrong it's not a deafining noise in the cab but u know it's back there.
