how safe are chips?

Before running any chip/tuner, and especially propane, you should invest in a set of gauges to monitor the engine, transmission, and turbo boost. It's also a good idea to have a 4" exhaust, aftermarket downpipe, and air intake before you start modding. These will help keep the engine running in a safe temperature range. It's also a good idea to make some modifications to strengthen your transmission if you are going to run some serious HP.

1)if your '01 is a diesel it should not have a cat. 2) a larger exhaust(no muffler even better) and gauges are a must( in my opinion) for a big chip 3) safe? that all depends on your right foot. i will say, i just got rid of a 3 pos. flip chip that was not working wright, it was stuck in the 100 hp setting all the time. it was very hard to keep my egt's down while towing a moderate load, to the point that i would say it was not safe. as far as propane goes, dont know, havent got there yet...
