stepside box alignment

was piecing together my stepside box on the 55, and was getting confused. i dont plan on having wood in the back anytime soon, but wanted to bolt it on in the hopes of driving it someday. the front of the box i bolted back to the sides through the holes i drilled in the spotwelds, the front holes line up with the brace, but does the brace sit on top of or below the lip on the box front?, i notice the sides dont want to sit at the right height on the braces, so i can conclude i need 1 inch or 3/4 inch bushings to simulate the missing wood in order to bolt the sides to the braces? if i was to guess, the wood sits on the braces and the box on top of that. part of the problem with getting a basket case is you dont know how it came apart....

I beleive there is at least one brace (maybe two) that attach to the bed after the wood is in place. Look in the basket for a couple of misc lengths of metal that might seem to do the trick. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong - I'm not at home this week and can not take a peek.

i got the two braces going across and the one at the front and rear, was more or less wondering if the lip of the box sides rests directly on them, or if wood rests on the brace and the lip of the boxside goes on top of that. but since i am not using wood i would use a few bushings for now, so if thats the case how thick is the wood for a box, should i use 3/4 or 1 inch bushings, and need to figure out yet if that front crossmember rests on top of the front lip or under it, i jacked the box up a inch and it seemed to sit right but i just wanted to make sure. i was hoping to put it together with out the wood even though the wood floor is a major part of the box's integrity, thanks

The front brace bolts to the box on the lower side. The two cross brackets bolt to the frame. They are cantered so you need to put them on in the right direction so their top edges will be flat/level for the wood. The back of the box bolts to the frame. By running a string line for the floor and eyeballing the front and rear top edges of the box you can adjust with rubber spacers for proper alignment. Good luck, John
