Question another engine swap question

Sorry everyone.. i know half the threads on here are about swaps but this one is new. Anyway my brother just totalled his '01 ranger 4x4 with the 4.0 v6. The engine is still in perfect condition. I think its an ohc and it seems a bit taller. Another thing, its automatic.. mines a stick... i know the flywheels are way different. oh sorry.. i have a 89 b2 2.9l 5spd 4x4 by the way. So.. is it possible, feasible, stupid to even imagine? any info would be great.

Anything is possible, feasible, and to stupid to even imagine!!But what the heck!!You will need the computer and wireing harness to make your truck MAF truck Other then that the 4.0 will bolt to the trannie and fit in to your truck. I know there is more to it but I just dont rember it right now.
GOOD LUCK AND MOST OF ALL BE SAFE!!! UES JACKSTANDS!!

Are you sure the 4.0 SOHC engine will bolt to the tranny?

No Ken00 not 100%.I just thought that all 4.0 had the same bolt pattern for the tranny.I do know that the ohv 4.0 has the same patternas the 2.9.

Well i just checked the James Duff website... it says the 4.0 is a straight bolt in swap from the 2.9, doesnt say if thats the 4.0 from a 90 ranger or from an 01 ranger. I know the old one would fit.. the one i have access to is the new one. Thats my problem. But for just a second.. assume it does fit in nice and easy. Will the tranny, transfer case, and diffs handle the extra power or would they need upgrading too?

The 4.0SOHC is a totally different design so I would check into that. I can't help with the drivetrain but I would be concerned, I bet someone will know if they used the same components in the 4.0 OHV Ranger/Explorer as they did in the 2.9 BIIs.
