Hey all, i have a 1968 ford withOUT a driver side lock assembly. The junkyards up here in Alaska are few and far between and raped of all ford trucks. I was wondering where I could find the lock assembly. I have an *** truck and can order the new keys, etc, but can't order the assembly that goes under the lock ****. there is nothing there, no **** or anything!!! please send me in the direction to find one of these -Morgan

Usually the only difference between L&R sides is the grommets holding the rods are inserted backwards. I would have to go out and check my truck (3:17 am to be sure, though I think all you have to do is remove the right hand side, remove the rods, take out the plastic clip, reverse it, snap the rods back in (backwards) and you have a driver's side assembly.

If that then works, all you really need is to find just about any Ford from that range year. Usually the only difference between a van assembly and truck assembly is the length of the rod inside the door. You could probably even take one out of a Ford 1990s L-9000 tractor and make it work.

Two notes of caution. Mark the rods with labels before removing it from the door to note where they attach, and make sure you do not break those 30 year old rod retaining clips. I would make sure the whole assembly was nice and warm at 70+ and not 30 degrees so those plastic pieces do not break. Press in the clips/wings carefully before trying to remove the clip.

I think that the torsion spring that holds the detent in either the lock or unlock position is different from side-to side also. I think that one is a left hand wound spring and the other is a right hand wound spring.
