Hey everyone, Im taking my general oral and practical test tomorrow to get my aircraft mechanic licenses. Im taking my powerplant test on friday. Anyone else on here involved with aviation for a living? Im really hoping after I get settled down with an aircraft mechanic career to get my private pilots license and build my own plane one day. The plane I want to build is a Mustang II. Website for them is www.mustangaero.com. They are located in Troy Michigan about 50 minutes from where I live. I've been there before too, they have a really nice place where they make the kits for you to build your own plane. Anyone else have their own plane? Fred
Congrats on enduring the process of getting your A/P. I've had mine, and have been using it professionally, for nearly 30 years. One bit of advice...always do the right thing, then double-check it. Never take shortcuts and never compromise. Your integrity is critical in every application you exercise as an A/P.
And keep learning!! Not just the new digital technologies, but also the old ways; the basic physics of flight and the materials used in aviation.
And the same goes for flying, it is unforgiving in punishing the careless and reckless, but can also be sheer beauty when it's just you at the controls.
Wow, that looks really cool, good luck on your carrer, and the tests, i hope you do good! Looks like alot of fun. ANd if you its somthing you really enjoy that will make it all that much better.

My unit is an aviation unit. Not a fixed wing though, the CH-47. I dont deal with the choppers, I'm a light wheeled vehicle mechanic (Humvees, 2 1/2, and 5 ton trucks), but I do get to spend a lot of time around them and the pilots/crews.
I work on aircraft for the navy for a living, and love it. i am hoping after i get some more college credits under my belt to work on my A/P license, and get my fcc licenses as well.
I hope your test went well. Currently, I'm not aware of anyone who owns their own plane here although I'm sure there are a couple. We do have some commerical pilots though and several GA pilots, myself included.
If I ever got the money. I would more likely get an 201 or 205. I really like the bellanca vikings, ive flown in one. The cockpit is a little small, but the thing is fast and very responsive. There relatively cheep too.
I worked on the C-130A when I was in the Air Force.
I worked on 25 of the first C-5A,s at Lockheed in Ga. Also worked at a small north Ga private airport for a while.
I did take the written test for the A/P license but didn't take the practical.
I have been out of the acraft industry since 72. Sometimes I miss it but not in the freezing rain and snow at midnight.
I think it is a good field but I didn't want to move every time the Gvt wanted to cut back on spending.
Maby a big airport like Atlanta would be ok.
Congrats.
I was in aviation for many years. Was an instructor to build time, then a corporate pilot for a few years. I've owned several planes, and built 3 homebuilts. I have some rotor time and jet time, but never got rated. I had my A&P time signed off, but never took the tests for the license.
Heres one of my homebuilts I designed and built...
I got my commercial pilot's license back in '91. Flew crop dusters in Arkansas up until '94 when the guy I was flying for sold his business. I got into law enforcement and didnt fly much up to spring of 2000. I started flying cropdusters again in the summer, and pipeline patrol in the winter months. Started out crop dusting in a Piper Pawnee 235 hutch wing, then moved up to a 600 Ag Cat, and 401 Air Tractor. I presently fly a PT-6 powered 402 Air Tractor, and a Cessna Skylane on my pipeline patrol route.
