When I go over bumps something in the front end make a grinding, rolling, and clunking sound. It sounds like its up under the driver's side floor. It did it before the lift I've just put on, I thought the new bushings would solve the problem but it hasn't. Anybody got any ideas.
An F150 does not have U-bolt's they are coil spring's. He also said he replaced the bushing's. Does this clunk and grind happen in 4WD only or all the time? If 4WD only then look more at the ring and pinion in the front axle.
All,
This could be the transfer case. Take a ride in your truck with a friend.
Let him/her drive and you sit in the pasenger's seat. Then jump in the bed. By locating yourself in different areas of the truck, you are more likely to accurately determine wear the noise is coming from. The radius arm bushing is not likely to create a grinding noise, " all the time".
Please confirm the source of the noise,

Check the track bar bushings. I've had this problem in the past. Also, when I rebuilt the trans and installed a new mount, I realized that the body had sagged to a point that the body would hit the trans in bumps or corners. Took a while to diagnose but a new set of body mounts did the trick
did you check the U-joints? mine was doing the excact same thing. it clunked grinded and squeeled. turns out all my u joints were gone! also, for a source of the clunking, CHECK THE BRAKE CALIPERS!!!! my pass, side one clunks because the support braket is slightly bent, so it wiggles. and today my driverside one FELL OFF!!! im going back to the mechanic that changed the pads... on monday. this is unacceptable. only been less than a month since the pads were changed. thank god for 3 month warranties!!
