Well i finally did it. I finally got me a truck to pull my car around with. 94 F-250 with 109,000 miles. Didn't think that was too bad for a 94. Anyway, I guess what i really need to know is this...How many quarts of oil does this thing hold?? How about tranny fluid??? How often do i change the oil?? How about the fuel filter??? Any and all maintenance that i can do myself i would love to know about...what kind of oil to use...what filters are the best...just plain dumb about this diesel thing so far...so any help will be appreciated...thanks
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Mar-02 AT 07:46 PM (EST)]I don't know on the 94, but on our 93's they hold 11qrts oil (psd filter) we use.and they are non-turbo.On our 99's and up they hold 15 qrts oil with filter. Oil is 15W40. and we will go about 5000miles on the oil. depends on your use. Make sure your oil pan is at least 15qrts or bigger before you drain the pan or you could have a mess. also it is normal for the oil to get black quickly after you change the oil.so don't freak out when you se how black it is. on my personal truck because I drive it so little, I change it about every six months.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Mar-02 AT 08:58 PM (EST)]Some early PSD's, 94 1/2-99 only hold 14qts of oil. In general, oil should be changed at 3000 miles for severe service and 5000 miles for regualr service. Fuel filter should be changed every 12-15000 miles and air filters as required.
Thanks for the help guys. It's not a turbo diesel. Just a regular one. Do they make K&N filters for these things? Would it be worth it? I just filled her up for the first time. Man i never thought i'd pay 40 dollars for one tank or shall i say two tanks of gas. Let's see how long that'll last me. thanks

Check the K&N website for your application. Aftermarket filters do save money in the long run since you can clean and reuse them instead of replacing them. As for performance, I'm not sure unless you are running high boost pressures which you are not since you don't have a turbo.
Sorry about the dis-respect. I meant no harm at all. I hope mine is good stuff. I'm enjoying it so far. Only had it 3 days now. I'll have to check out the K&N page about the filter. I also have a couple more questions. 1.Would a 4 inch flowmaster muffler sound good on my truck? It has a glasspak on it now and I don't like that raspy sound. I do like the deep rumble of a flowmaster and I have one that I took off my car that I could put on the truck. 2.Should my tachometer read anything when I'm not moving. When I come to a complete stop the tach reads nothing. It moves as soon as I start rolling again. Is that normal? Well until I think of more stuff to bug you guys about I guess that's it. Thanks again. Later
