I have a '99.5 powerstroke with 65K miles, that I think has a coolant leak but I can't find it. Not every time but fairly consistantly, when I get out of the truck, I can smell some coolant. I flushed and filled the radiator a few months ago and never had any problems before this. I checked the hoses and all that I messed with when I changed the coolant and can't see where it may be coming form. The reservoir level seems to be fine also. I know I am not crazy and can smell it, but hell if I can find it. I checked the oil just through the dipstick and it doesn't smell like coolant or appear abnormal. Does anyone have any particular spots I should be looking at? Thanks in advance!
JinnyG,
I smelled antifreeze before I found that my waterpump was going out. It was hard to see exactly where it was coming from. But eventually I seen where it was starting to spin off the pulley`s and coating the hoses and such. I have a 2000 F350 PSD 4x4 Crwcb Dually. I only had 60000mi. on it when it went out. If you go to change it yourself you will need to borrow a wrench set from your local AutoZone in order to remove the fan and clutch. Once that is remove it`s pretty simple. Hope that helps.

To add to that, I remember that I had to buy a gasket for the lower waterpump hose when replacing mine. I bought my pump at NAPA and it came with thermastat gasket. I installed it myself only to find out that I should have taken it in to Ford and paid only $100 deductible to have whole thing replaced. I assumed it wasn`t covered under warrenty and took it upon myself to dive right in and fix it. I paid somewhere around $300 for it.

Called the dealer and they are going to take a look tomorrow. They said that if it is the waterpump, they will replace it under warranty with a $100 deductable. My 100K/5yr warranty is up May 24th so I hope they can get it taken care of. The only problem is you can't see where the leak is but the dealer said they can pressurize the system to find the leak. Does this make sense to everyone? I guess I will find out tomorrow. I will repy as to what they come up with. Thanks for the help.
