I'm super new here, and have been thinking about a custom exhaust after looking at a few trucks to buy. The truck will be a work truck, and when I have some extra cash, I'll get a car hauler to trailer the M3 to the track.
Could you run a 4 inch down pipe, then have it just dump out the passenger side right under the doors? my buddy did that with his VW bug TDI (bought it to commute in, not becuase he thinks bugs are cute) and got much better turbo response, and could build boost faster.
I've always thought that any piping after the turbo is restrictive, and it is prefered to get the exhaust gasses into the atmosphere ASAP. having a 4 inch pipe running 20 something feet in theory seams to slow the exhaust velocity, in turn building more backpressure. This is in comparisson to, lets say, a 3 foot long 4 inch pipe that dumps out right under the passenger door.
this also seams to be cheaper than all the advertised exhuasts I've seen, especially since rust is not an issue in CA
It sounds good to me. Noise might be an issue depending on what kind of muffler you use. For my truck without a muffler or cat, it might be a little loud if it was mounted at the door. But you can't hear it good enough in the cab behind the rear wheel with the windows rolled up. Maybe I should mount it in front of the rear wheel. It would be louder in the cab, but not too loud.
