Door Lock Actuator

Hey, I have a 91 302 Bronco, and my power door locks do not work. I have checked the power going to the switch...and there is power to it...I think i have to replace the actuator but i'm not sure how to go bout taking it out of the door. Suprisingly i looked inside the passenger door and the door lock actuator wasn't even there!!!! Either way i have to get it out to check if there's power going to it...any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

JBronco as well as a few others have posted here about this procedure but I have not done it yet but need to replace my drivers side. From what I can gather, it is a NON visual replacement since you can not see what you are doing. You must feel your way through the removal and replacement. Supposedly, you don't have to drill out the rivets that hold the bracket to the door unless you happen to break it when removing the actuator. You could do a search and find the link that walks you through it pretty easily.

Keep us posted.

I as well have a 91 w/ 302, and I replaced my actautors a few months ago. All you have to do is remove the door panel and you CAN see the actuator. All you need to do is pull strait down on it and it will pop out of the white bracket holding it to the door. A little lube might not be a bad idea. Don't break the white part like I did or you will have to drill it out, but its not a big deal. Hope this helps.

You can see it, but barely; and you cannot see it while you are working on it. However, it is a good idea to look at it first to see what you are dealing with. And if you have large forearms like me, be prepared to get a litle scratched up.

a real good way to put in and take out the actuator is to heat the little rubber gromets with a hair dryer or other device and they will slide right up in the brackets.

I busted mine too, and having a rough time finding a replacement bracket...any sources other than taking a portable generator to the junk yard and surgically removing another would be appreciated.

Thanks - carpenterstreet

My replacement came with a bracket, I'd send it you you but I think that I threw everything out that was left over. Do you have a replacement yet, or did you get one from the boneyard? A good DeWalt on full charge should drill the rivet out if you need to do that.

I bought the actuator at the Junk Yard and it came with the bracket. When I drilled mine out though the rivet was pretty tuff, so make sure you bring some heavy duty drill bits. Good Luck!

I saw those, but instead paid $50 for an exact-fit aftermarket one that also came with a bracket if needed. I would hate to have to try and get a universal one to fit and work properly, given the tight squeeze and lack of visibility. If it was a wide open straight shot, I would have given a universal one a try. Maybe if you drill out the bracket, and mount the universal one to the bracket first and then reattach it, it might be easy. There's only one way to find out...

Try eBay Item number: 2478558378 This is the same one that I bought for $49, now it is $39, and from the same people. It comes with a bracket if you need it and fits perfectly (you just attach the rod that fits your truck and chuck the rest of them). The shipping from these folks was very quick too. I think I also got my eBay exhaust manifold from the same people - it fit perfectly.

As far as I remember you have to take the actuator out of the bracket first because the end is snaked in there. Kind of like this:

Actuator

... don't know if that makes sense (ignore those dots), but good luck!
