Cam ?'s

I am going to get my uncle's 79 F150 for free that has a 351m in it. I am going to take out the motor and put it in a 78 4x4 F150. I am going to rebuild it with 400 crank and connecting rods when I get the money. What would be a good cam that would give me all around torque and a good sound at idle.

You need a 400 crank and pistons, your connecting rods can be reused.

If you are building it for highway use, get Badger flattop pistons to get a 9.0:1 compression ratio, and use a Comp Cams 265DEH cam.

You may want to call Comp Cams and tell them what you want to use it for, and they can give you the right cam and springs to use.

I want to build it for moderate off roading and mudding. I drive 7 miles to school and 7 miles back each week day. So milage dosent have to be great but it would be nice. I really want a mean 4x4 truck to play with. So I want a lot of low end torque. Thanks.

For more low end torque and better mileage use the Comp Cams 255DEH, but the sound at idle will not be as good as the longer duration 265DEH.
