I almost caused myself a lot of grief this weekend while running around a local park.
There was a nice little ramp leading from a trail to a few water pits where we were, and I took it the first time with a little wheelie action all the way over and it landed smoothly, no problems. On the second pass through I had some water in the intake tract from the previous pit and the motor bogged on the ramp and just rolled over it.
The third time I took it I gave it just a bit to much pedal and the swampers didn't falter, they gripped and sent my grill skybound. This little ramp was a bit more vertical than I would have cared for. About the time I felt a little weightless in the seat, I saw the ground coming. I took a hard nose dive into the lightly muddy area on the other side of the jump.
It hit hard, hard enough to break the bolts holding my tool box on the bed and dislocate a few other things, as well as bend my bumper and grill guard far in and down.
Two of my friends in a jeep were parallel about 10 feet over and said they were a bit shocked with what they said was about 6ft worth of vertical jump, followed by a nasty front to rear slam back into the ground. I am pretty disappointed they didn't get any pics though, considering I won't be doing that again...........hopefully.
All in all, it doesn't look as though I did too much damage, the bumper bent back, it pulls a bit to the right, but otherwise I was lucky.
Watch those jumps!
edit: a couple pics of yesterday are in my gallery.
ya know..i did that once...got pictures of my truck 5 feet in the air off a construction ramp....that kinda busted some stuff landing on my pasanger rear tire....
Hey, we'd love to see those pics Ryan if you happen to have them on the computer. Yea, nothing as cool as seeing a fullsize airborn but I sure try to avoid it in my rig. Glad you avoided major carnage, sounds like fun.
I'm here to tell you-if your truck is equipped properly, jumping is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!!!! (I've never tried jumping a truck while I was naked, but I cant imagine it would improve it any)
