Well the question was asked if you would sell for gas price. Well I would not but we have been thinking about selling the wifes Suburban to get something smaller for a while and now (not for gas but because she wants something smaller) it has 125K miles on it so it is time. Well I think she will be keeping it a while. The money that I would loose selling it would never pay for that gas saved on something smaller. So I figure with the rep the V10 has even though wrong it is going to be hard to give them away right now. I have not checked prices in a while but I bet they a not to hot an item right now.
On the up side I think this summer would be a great time to but a V10 or large SUV if gas prices don't bother you.
What "rep the V10 has" are you referring to? I really wouldnt have an option anyway. I would either have to have my V10, or a PSD. I would take a hit on trade in value on my truck if I went for a PSD, and Diesel in my area is only 8 cents per gallon cheaper right now anyway. I think the money aspect of it would come out pretty close to equal.
Well all you need to do is read the PSD guys report of our 1 mpg I am in the same boat in the I need a 3/4 ton truck and the 5.4 would not pull my load. I had a PSD and went to a V10.
The question is what are the prices going to do? Large SUV's are going down in value as we speak and with gas not looking to peak anytime soon people are going to panic. So when they hear V10! they get scared.
I bought my V10 E350 back on 09JAN full well knowing that gas was gonna hit the roof this year (I have a friend who studies such things as part of his work...). I'm a realist, my ol' A* gets 17-19 MPG, the new van gets 13-15 MPG, there's not a lot of difference there. With a family of five, all "adults" (kids are 18, 16, and 14), we need the room *now* so I always planned this to be the last big family vehicle I buy. I also planned to keep this for eight to ten years just as I keep all my vehicles, so I expected to get nothing when I sold it anyway...
Bottom line, I'll keep this no matter if gas goes to $5 a gallon. It's still the only thing that can do the jobs I ask of it, partly because of the 6.8L.
I have done the math quite a few times, it would not benefit me to get rid of the V10.
Agreed, here in Portland Oregon diesel is the same price as premium, +.20 cents a gal over regular. Think about it, $1.50 a gallon times say 25 gallons a week (that's 300 miles a week, about normal I guess) is $37.50. $2 a gallon is $50 in gas, or $12.50 more per week or $50-ish a month. If you need a big rig with power you can't really substitute for anything else. With the baby stroke costing an extra $5,500 or so even IF it gets anywhere near the mileage the oilburner crow about (I never got anywhere near the great mileage I heard about with all my Ford diesels) you still are going to pay more as an initial outlay, or pay a higher monthly payment for a new truck with the PSD. Can you trade in your existing rig and come out with only an extra $50 per month ? Probably not.
I agree on the with you guys and always have that it's still cheaper to drive the V-10. But there are many that thing their life revolves on the gas price.
I am asking I guess for your predictions on what prices are going to do. Knowing what people think and the crappy media we now have how long before gas powered trucks and large SUV's hit the skids? The question was could you even sell the truck if you wanted to within a few months.
Again I was going to sell the wifes surburban but I can not get squat for it.
I know my pickup isn't going anywhere soon.. that's staying with me. As far as a daily driver, we'll probably look towards something more fuel efficient. I rely on public transportation to get to work and the future wife will need something small enough to get good gas mileage but large enough to accomodate a lift for her wheelchair.. that's the next vehicle to be replaced (currently it's my 02' Impala that she'll get whatever replaces it). I'm guessing it'll be some sort of minivan or SUV. My pickup stays - it hangs around to haul, plow, and cause general ruckus.
