bed wood replacement in 56 f100

I redid the wood in my '59 shortbed stepside last year, and I made detailed drawings to give to a millwork shop to show them what to make. These would help you quite a bit, but my wood needed to be a little bit diffent than stock to allow clearance for some extra bracing that had been added earlier around the outside of my box beneath the wood. (That's why I couldn't use a ready-made kit: I'd have needed to alter it anyway.) Also, I did not leave clearance for the trim strip that goes across the top, rear end of the bed wood, because mine didn't have that. What I am saying is that you would not want your wood to be made exatly like mine was, but much of it would be the same. If you want these drawings, e-mail me. I saved a bunch of money by having my wood made compared to the cost of a ready-made kit and shipping.

Oh, yeah, and one more thing: When I started to install my new wood (and not until then, unfortunately), I discovered that my box was not quite square, while my wood was square. So even though my dimensions were correct, the last board wouldn't fit until I shaved some more off of its width. Had I known about this in advance, I could have avoided the problem by making each board a tiny bit narrower than I did, then all of the boards could have been shifted around to fit into the not-square box. Check your box for square.
