Hey Guys,
What are you doing for linkage?
I've got stock linkage, but cannot get the gas pedal anywhere near normal position.
Right now the pedal is about 8" off the floor, and gave me a terrible kink in my back trying to drive it like that. Not to mention, that throttle response sucks, and trying to dive at a steady cruise is near impossible.
If it's not 8" off the floor, it's on the floor, and the carb will only open 1/2 way.
Where would I get a throttle linkage kit that puts things back to normal?
Remove all that junky stock throttle linkage. Including that funky piece that mounts on the intake manifold.
I went and got a piece of allthread. I measured it out with the pedal and carb at WOT. I bet the allthread at 90 degree angles. Then I used metal/nylon locking srews to hold the allthread in place. I also used a little locktite just to be on the safe side.
well.
was bored, and decided that I could not be any worse off trying the direct link between the throttle rod and carb arm setup.
Grab'd my straightest, most heavy duty coat hanger, 2 pair of pliers, tape measure and a screw driver and headed out to the old girl.
15 minuits later, and with the help of my wife, I now have a coat hanger actuated Holley 2bbl.
Pedal is barely higher than stock, and wayyyyyy lower than trying to make the stock manifold lever/linkage deal work.
I can drive comfortably... leg/ankle geometry is deluxe.
The coat hanger even cleared the lever/linkage thing on the manifold, although I did dig out a 1/2" socket and pull that deal off.
Truck makes wayyy more power than it did with the stock 2bbl on there... It'll actually spin the tires now... HA!
See, you did the same as ME!! I did not have any linkage laying around for the '67, so I got a heavy coat hanger and used it. Perfect. Still on there TODAY(almost a year now).
If it works??? Some day I'll upgrade it, but for now there are much more important things to do.
I had the same issues in my 68 when upgrading to an Edlebrock setup. I got a custom accelerator cable from www.controlcables.com . It's $20 and is universal. It's a great setup.
I can't quite remember if the original throttle linkage came with the adjustable rod, but I just connected that straight up with the pedal rod. Super simple, and has worked awesome even after mashing on it for 2 years drag racing.
