last week I pressure washed everything on my 88 f150 but now it wont start. when i turn the key on i dont here the fuel pumps kick in. ive checked as many cables as i can find for shortage or being loose but cant find any. someone mentioned to me a collision sensor that shuts the pumps off. could i have triggered it? if i did where is it and how can i reset it?
thanks
Is it chanking over, or totally dead? Did you try to start it directly after washing it. If it cranks but won't start, you may have damaged the Ignition Module or may have moisture in the distributer. If it cranks but doesn't start, spray a little WD-40 in the distributer cap and try it again.
well now the fuel pumps arent kicking in, i havent tried the rear tank cause its sittin agianst my shop wall with a hole in it. It will start just fine with starting fluid but there no gas up there. i can here a relay kick in when i turn the key on and then 2-3 seconds later it turns off like the pumps ran but i no they didnt. any help will be greatly appreciated
Okay, It runs with starting fluid. My dad had a similar problem with his 90 F-150 quitting when it go warm. It took a long time to find his problem, not to mention about $1000 in tow bills to the dealer. Take a good look at all the wire harnesses going to the fuel injectors. He had a contact opening up and shutting off the injectors. The connector on his was on-top the left wheel well below the brake master cylinder. Disconnect those connectors and clean them real well.
I had a fuel pump connector (at the tank) get wet and short so badly the connector burned and still didn't blow the fuse. You said you pressure washed everything, and if that includes the engine the problem could be anywhere, but if not I would check out the connector at the tank.
