PC/Network Pros: What Is This Server Worth?
3 person office.
Thanks for the help.
Antec SLK3700 AMB with Antec 350w power supply and 120mm fan. Power button
doesn't work, so using the reset button as the power switch.
2.4C Intel P4 hyperthreaded cpu (oc's to 3.2 but not necessary as a server)
Zalman Alcu-7000 heatsink. Much better than stock heatsink and keeps
everything quiet.
MSI 865G NEO2-PLS- Onboard video, nic, usb, firewire, sound, sata, etc.
Great solid motherboard with the Intel chipset.
1Gig of Crucial DDR 3200, 4x256
1 Western Digital 36GB raptor
1 Seagate 80GB HD ST380011A
Lite-On 48x24x48x16 CDRW/DVD
3com 10/100 nic
Includes Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition-

SBS Server 2K3 Premium includes the following in its bundle:
Windows Server 2003
Windows SharePoint Services
Exchange Server 2003
Outlook 2003 - for all clients
SQL Server 2000
Office Front Page 2003
ISA Server 2000 SP1
5 client access licenses.
All media and books included. Comes both on DVD and set of cd's.
RAM if ordered new today: $228. Probably still worth $200.
Motherboard, CPU, heatsink/fan: $261 new. $150 or so used.
Hard drives: 80gb Seagate $65 new, say $40 now. WD: about $25. Don't know how long a used hard drive will last, for a business, if it's more than a couple years old, it's basically worthless.
CDRW/DVD: $47 new, maybe $30 now.
Adds up to about $500 or so altogether. I don't know if I'd spend $500 for any used computer though, wouldn't cost much more than that to build a new one, and this system is overpowered for a 3-person office. If you're using it for a business, I'd almost certainly buy new just for warranties and reliability.
Software is $999 ordered today. So, altogether, $1500 or thereabouts.
Just my $.02. YMMV.
The software would be a good deal, but then you will more than likely NOT qualify for support... not good! You'll have to pay-per-incident which can get costly if you need help alot. I'd give 'em $400 tops for the whole setup.
