i pulled the codes on my '96 5.0 a fiew days ago it said "ERG valve insufficent flow". if i reset the computer it will take a fiew weeks to turn back on. is it even worth takin it apart and cleaning it out? will it make the 5.0 run lean and use more gas?
Try to take off the top part thats on the egr valve (which is the egr valve position sensor) thats held in by 3 small bolts and clean it up and what you can inside. If this isn't good enough you will either have to take the whole thing off and clean it up or buy a new one. I think you might run lean without it working right.

The egr position sensor is located on the right side of the throttle body. It's rectangular in shape w/ 3 wire connector and two hoses. My buddy's '96 was getting the same codes. Due to the clogged cats there was too much backpressure and this cause the egr position sensor to fail. Replaced both cats with new exhaust system, new egr valve and egr valve position sensor. This got rid of the codes.
Check your exhaust system and make sure you don't have clogged cats because these sensors run about $65 bucks. Hope this helps.
