Torque convertor?

Is there any way to narrow down a convertor failure? I have a 65 mustang with a 6 cyl-C-4 that I'm working on and I'm ready to pull it but want to know why before I do. The guy says he was sitting at a light and when he decided to go, the car had other ideas. He said it "kind of made a bang or clank and now it don't do anything." Sure enough, I checked it out and it has good u-joints, fluid level, shift linkage works right but, it has absolutely no gears. It doesn't even try. I hooked up a pressure gauge to a port behind the bell housing and it has 70psi at idle and 100psi when in gear. I can't find any specs as to what it should be but, it doesn't appear to be a pump problem......

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place.
