Steering column questions

I just put a 11" steering wheel on my truck. I don't like the look with the turn signal and shifter sticking out past the diameter of the wheel. Cutting down the turn signal was no problem. I can't seem to find an aftermarket shifter thats shorter for it or any aftermarket column shifter for it for that matter. Does anyone sell a replacement shifter? If so, does anyone know where I can get one. Also thought of calling a salvage yard for a shifter. I don't think they would part out a column for just the shift lever though. So I figured I'd get the whole column. What year columns would interchange with a 86 F100 non tilt wheel?

MSC, the pin where the shifter pivots is bad in my 82. Was calling around for replacement options. Ford had just the shift collar for 75$.
Average price for a whole column thru salvage yards was 100$ if they had one. The one i found came out of an 86, non tilt, non AOD. I'd think 80 to 86 would be interchangeable. The salvage yard would know.

shaggymane, Did Ford sell just the shifter lever itself?

Mark, the part that's going bad on mine is the hole that holds the pin going thru both the shifter and shift collar. I wouldn't be buying a shifter. I would be buying the shift collar. Hence I wouldn't have asked about the lever.

As far as a shifter and handle i'm not much help. I think i'd be looking at custom rod mags for ideas. There are various ***** for stick shifts of course and i've only looked once to replace the loose on on my Expy.

Shaggy, You may be able to drill the shifter and the holes in the collar out to the next size roll pin and not have to buy the collar, just a roll pin. Just a thought.

Horton,
Yeah, i thought about that. The hold back was not knowing exactly what angle to drill, that is with everything assembled.

But it's well beyond the next pin size. The top side is so whollered out a 5/16ths bolt would probably drop in.

Now that i have it apart and can see the internals for postion, I may try drilling it out (just for meanness) and see what happens. Maybe find a shoulder bolt or double nut something. It's an old beater for sure, looks aren't what that truck is about. Should have made a donor out of it when the tranny went (for the third time) but you know how it is. Ya just get attached to 'em.

shaggy, I've looked at Lokar and other hot rod aftermarket companys. Nobody that I found offered anything for a Ford. All I could find was listings for GM columns. Apparently after market Gm columns is what they put in all the hot rods. Thanks for your time and info.

Mine is doing the same thing. 82 F 150.
I put a screw in the roll pin and the screw head is in the shifter housing.
Works till I can find something better. Still very sloppy.
