I like the look of the 4wd, but I came across a 2wd at a awsome price. So I guess somewhere down the line (if I buy it) Id raise it up. Has anyone else done it? What does it cost? Can I do it myself? Thanks for all the advise
There are quite a few lifted 2x4 around here, Im sure they will be around soon to fill you in on the details.
I know Fabtech makes a lift for the 4x2...
If you got the tools, and some heavy duty Jack Stands, and know your way around a vehicle, you should be able to do it yourself, have a buddy give you a hand.
Take a look at my truck. While it is a SRW, it is 2WD. It has the Performance 6" Lift by Fabtech. I love the lift but i am having some ride problems with the tires. The lift was installed by a local 4x4 shop. I was told by numerous people that if you are not familiar with 2x4 ford suspension, to not do it myself.

Your truck looks awsome, How much did the lift run you if you dont mind?
I just helped my buddy lift his 03 2wd srw two weeks ago. I imagine it should be exactly the same.
He used a 6inch pro comp lift and 35inch tires, looks real nice.
The lift kit was 700bucks. The alignment bushings were 40bucks, and the pitman arm was I think 50 bucks. Thats all you need that wasn't included in the basic kit. It also rides better than my truck since it has coils. Almost wish I had a 2wd, not.
The lift cost $1400 plus an aditional $600 for the installation. I was debating between the procomp and fabtech, and after much discussion, i went with the fabtech performance kit. The performance kit includes new radius arms, where all the other kits just use lowering brackets. These new radius arms are stronger and help with the alignment and ride quality. The truck rides great and tomorrow i am having 16x10 American Racing rims put on. So i will have to post some new pictures when i get her back!
I had a chance to check out the fabtech performance lift this weekend. The radius arms that are included in the kit are nice and stout. I think it's a better setup than juat using the drop down brackets. If you can afford it, go with the new radius arms. I doubt you'll regret it.
The replacement radius arms are of the tubular design and are much heavier duty then the stock radius arms. The shop that installed my lift said that if i could break this lift, he would be amazed. The quality of the fabtech lift is amazing and when you place the parts of the fabtech lift next to the parts of a pro comp, there is no comparison.
Fabtech only makes 2WD 4" and 6" lifts for gas V8's and V10s but there's a guy on here who has a diesel that bought a 4" FabTech lift and the shop who did the work substituted the 4" lift coils in the kit with the coils that come with the 6" lifts. He said it worked out perfect as far as being able to handle the extra weight of the PSD.
hey i have a complete 6 inch procomp 4x2 lift for a diesel i took off my truck when i sold it id let go for 450 the kit has about 5,000 miles on it. E-mail me if intrested day__trader@ msn.com (without the space.)
Pro-Comp 6" plus Daystar 2" urethane coil spacers for a total of 8" in the front. 1-1/2" add-a-leaf and 1-1/2" tapered blocks for 3" rear lift. Maybe I should find a set of Pro-Comp 6" coils for a diesel and toss the spacers. Probably too stiff. The alignment adjusters are a "must have". Pics in my gallery. I'll be glad when the freakin' howling Remington Mud Brutes wear out and I can get some all-terrains.
