I have a '01 Ranger 4 door Off Road Package 4x4, with a 5 spd tranny with a little problem. While taking off and shifting for that matter a strange thunk/cluck/buck whatever you wanna call it occurs from the rear end. Also a funny "tinking" noise from the front end, could be just u-joints but do not know. This is the only prob with the truck other wise runs perfect. Only has 34K on the truck so I'm hoping it won't be that big of a deal. I've head of some driveshaft probs with this model and was wondering if this was the same kinda deal goin' on here. If so whats it gonna cost me, and since I turn my own wrenches is it gonna be that hard to fix?
You are experiencing a very common problem with the Ranger driveshaft. If you haven't already, then you should probably read through this thread: 1998+ Driveline Clunk/Thump
Which driveshaft does your truck have? Steel or aluminum?
I have a steel driveshaft, hit the nail right on the head..... rusted as can be. I was wondering still if this problem is expensive, and or hard. I've had the driveshaft off of my 92 f-150 but thats not this new ranger. So as much help as possible is appricated.
